NETWORKING

Armed with business cards you will be ready to promote your enterprise at any given time at work and socially.

There are many who do not carry their cards with them and when asked for their card, have none to offer. An opportunity lost.

Your cards are your most cost effective means to reach potential customers on a personal basis and you should never be caught without one.

When you pass it on you can elaborate further and answer any questions they might have.

The topic of networking evolves around moving in circles where others are there for a common purpose. The most common associations related to this are your local Chamber of Commerce as well as trade and service associations i.e. Rotary. These will allow you to gain exposure amongst their members who together have a wealth of experience. They will be willing to pass on their experience to you as an interested associate. Be like a sponge and absorb knowledge from these experienced business operators.

Here are some tips to assist you with your networking ventures.

  • Join your local Chamber of Commerce or Rotary and or social & sporting clubs. Be visible by being involved.
  • Join Toastmasters International. Develop your confidence in public speaking and leadership.
  • Always have your business cards with you
  • Initiate an exchange of business cards by asking first for your colleague’s card.
  • It then follows that they will request yours and you will be seen as being interested in their business.
  • Be a confident conversationalist and ask open questions (how what where & why)
  • Create a courteous exit from your conversation i.e. "I enjoyed meeting you"
  • Develop a colourful way to describe your business i.e. for me "I assist small businesses to become successful"
  • Have a "Thank You" card or stationery to thank people who have assisted you. You will stand out by sending one out and they will welcome helping you in the future.
  • Move around. Meet new people.

Most of all enjoy meeting your new business acquaintances.
